3 more medals in 2014 Incheon Asian Games Triathlon

By office@asia.triathlon.org | 14 Jul, 2011

Yesterday OCA Executive Board approved Mixed Team Relay triathlon into the program sports of 2014 Incheon Asian Games in Tokyo. The inclusion of the discipline means more than 1 more gold medal in the Asian Games because it will encourage our sport development on the equality of sex, and it will be a remarkable steppingstone toward the ITU’s ambition to have the discipline included in the Olympic programme.

Since the mixed team relay event was introduced back in 2009, the discipline has been becoming one of the fastest growing triathlon disciplines because the event is really fast and exciting. Also it supports the equality of the sexes, one principle of Olympic movement.

The team relay event took place as a program sport at the 2010 Singapore Youth Olympic Games. Mr. Jacques Rogge, IOC president, watched the event during the YOG and asked the Olympic Programme Commission to consider including the mixed team relay event into 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
