World Cup Live Coverage

By World Triathlon Admin | 04 Apr, 2008

As the BG Triathlon World Cup season starts for 2008, our live coverage of world cups and world championships resumes. This year we launch version 2.1 of our Tricast Live player which features tabbed live timing, live text, live video or picture player and quick links to all relevant event information. Tricast, in conjunction with MultiCast and Akamai, makes use of Adobe Flash to deliver content to our audience. This format has many advantages over other streaming formats with browser penetration for the Flash plugin above 95%, superior video quality and a high-performance network to minimise network congestion.

This year in a change of format we will not be producing live audio from events except for World Championships which will feature live commentary. However, we do have many events with live video this year with several events being able to produce a live television broadcast in the Olympic year.  The following events will have live video signals:

2008 New Plymouth BG Triathlon World Cup – April 6
2008 Ishigaki BG Triathlon World Cup – April 13
2008 Lisbon ETU Triathlon European Championships – May 10
2008 Madrid BG Triathlon World Cup – May 25
2008 Vancouver BG Triathlon World Championships (with live commentary) – June 5-8
2008 Des Moines BG Triathlon World Cup – June 22
2008 Hamburg BG Triathlon World Cup – July 6
2008 Kitzbuhel BG Triathlon World Cup – July 20
2008 Lorient BG Triathlon World Cup – September 27

As always, we will have full video highlights available the night of the race.  One of the races will be featured on the front page of triathlon.org and all will be available on our video section.  Official results are online immediately after approval from the race referees with the race photo gallery available a couple of hours after the final race. Post-race reviews will be available for each world cup within an hour of the race completion.

This weekend we have coverage from the New Plymouth BG Triathlon World Cup. We will be producing live video, live text and live timing. Although this is a live video event, video will be reproduced from the on-site big screen which will consist of 5 stationary cameras. This will cover the swim start and shoreline coverage of the swim.  Transition and the bike and run courses will be covered by 3 cameras along a 150-meter stretch in front of the grandstand. Timing points will cover the lap times and the live text will produce updates from the far turn points on the course to keep you informed of the race action.

Live coverage for the 2008 New Plymouth BG Triathlon World Cup will take place on Sunday April 6th at 12:00pm local time. Regional times are available below.
