Officials course in Philippines

By World Triathlon Admin | 06 May, 2007

The ITU, ASTC and Triathlon Association of the Philippines hosted a Technical Officials clinic in conjunction with the 2007 Subic Bay ITU Triathlon Asian Cup.  This clinic, which was supported by Olympic Solidarity, was attended by officials from Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Iran, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore and the Philippines.  For two days the course conductors, Leslie Buchanan, ITU Technical Director and Terry Sheldrake, Oceania Regional Representative and ITO from New Zealand taught the group the theory portion of the course.  The practical experience came from the two days of racing in Subic Bay.

The participants were graciously hosted by the Triathlon Association of Philippines President and Asian Regional Representative, Tom Carrasco, and Event Organiser extraordinaire, Red Dumuk.  They promised first rate service and with their team, they delivered.

The people from the course will soon be paired with an ITO with the goal of gaining more experience and continuing their development as Technical Officials.  This mentoring process started after the Athens Olympic Games and fits into the programme of accrediting Event Organisers and Technical Officials that the IOC Sport Department approved in 2005.
