By Masa Takaya | 11 Jan, 2011

The 2011 Gijon ITU Duathlon World Championships, set to take place on 24-25 September, organised an official event launch ceremony at the end of 2010.  D. José Ramón Tuero, Councilor for Sports of the Municipality of Gijón hosted the launch ceremony, joined by D. Ramon del Rio of the Government of Principado de Asturias, Jorge Garcia of the Spanish Triathlon Federation, and Alfredo Lorenzo, Vice-President of the Principado de Asturias Triathlon Federation.

Gijon is a northern coastal city in Spain and is also recognised as one of the most important touristic areas.  The city is confident that athletes, coaches and other guests from around the world will enjoy the incredible competition venue, which is set in the heart of the city.

Along with Elite competitions, Junior, U23, Mixed Team Relay, Age-Group Sprint, Standard, and ParaDuathlon are going to take place.  Hosting ParaDuathlon will be a unique opportunity to demonstrate a commitment from the entire triathlon family developing the sport with disabilities at every corner of the world.  Paratriathlon has been recently added to the RIo 2016 Paralympic Games programme.

The official website, www.duathlongijon.org, was also revealed.
