The ITU Women’s Committee is once again accepting nominations from National Federations and Continental Associations for its annual Award of Excellence. This year’s prize will once again recognise the achievements of a person - male or female - or an institution that has made an outstanding contribution to the participation of women in triathlon or paratriathlon. That may be through the training of athletes, raising of awareness, administrative support or as a role model and source of inspiration for women and girls in the sport.

“Gender equality is a central element of the work that ITU does and has always been in the DNA of triathlon,” said Women’s Committee chair Tomoko Wada. “It is the mission of our committee to make sure that female athletes, volunteers and staff are represented fairly and their voices heard. But there are also people the world over doing vital work that helps women, young and old, to discover triathlon and overcome the barriers to participation. This annual award shines a light on that work, and recognises the unsung figures and entities that play such vital roles in the sport’s development.”

Nominations can be made by National Federations, Continental Associations or an ITU Board, staff or committee representative, and must be received by June 1st 2018. The winner will be chosen by a selection committee comprising three members of the ITU Women’s Committee and two independent experts in the field of Women in Sport. The winner will be announced at the 2018 Annual ITU Congress in Gold Coast in September.

The 2017 award went to Italy’s Antonella Salemi for her excellent work in building female participation in triathlon all over Italy through her “Women Triathlon Italia” team.
