ITU President’s Presentation Part of IOC Congress

ITU President, Marisol Casado was selected by the IOC President to be one of the presenters at the 13th Congress of the IOC in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The Congress of the IOC is held approximately every 15 years, with the 2009 edition focusing on five main themes:
- The Athletes
- The Olympic Games
- The Structure of the Olympic Movement
- Olympism and Youth
- The Digital Revolution

The presentation by Marisol was part of the “Digital Revolution” theme and focused on “A New Management of Sports Rights.”  The key messages in the presentation by the ITU President were:
- Manage your television and media rights in-house;
- Whenever possible find a professional television partner such as Sport Five;
- Find professional staff who are young, innovative and on the leading edge of the digital age.

Other leadership from the Triathlon family who were also at the IOC Congress were:
Loreen Barnett, ITU Secretary General
Silvia Gonzalez, Secretary General Costa Rican Olympic Committee and President of Costa Rican Triathlon Federation; George Yerolympos, President Hellenic Triathlon Federation and Executive Board International Karate Federation; Ahmed Nasser, President Egyptian Triathlon Federation.

During their stay in Copenhagen, Marisol and Loreen also had the pleasure of meeting with Anna Karin Jørgensen, President of the Danish Triathlon Federation, and Ria Damgren, ITU Executive Board Member, and Ola Silvdahl, Secretary General of the Swedish Triathlon Federation.
