ITU President meets with Middle Eastern Federations

While at the ITU World Triathlon Abu Dhabi, ITU President and IOC Member Marisol Casado took the opportunity to meet with National Federations from the region. Marisol thanked UAE NF President General Abd Elmalik Jani for his support in the organization of the WTS race, which was the first time the World Triathlon Series touched down in the Middle East.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss expanding triathlon events in the Middle East, and using the World Triathlon Abu Dhabi as an important example for the potential triathlon has to grow in the region. The meeting also included discussions on how to incorporate Middle East Federations within the ITU Asian Confederation, as well as the possibility of creating a West Asian Federation.

Marisol would like to thank everyone for their attendance, which included Executive Board Member Ahmed Nasser, ITU Director General Antonio Arimany, ITU WTS Coordinator Kris Gemmell, Bahrain’s Sheikh Dr. Saqer Al.Khalifa, Lebanon’s General Mahmoud Dib, Iraq’s Kamal Qader, Jordan’s Dr.Tareq Al Khayyat, Kuwait’s Sheikh Fahad Jabar Al Ali Al Sabah, the UAE’s General Abd Elmalik Jani and Iran’s Mr. Ali Sabour.
