ITU President and IOC Member Marisol Casado attended the Africa International Sports Convention (CISA) in Marrakech, Morocco last week.  Launched in 2007, CISA provides a unique opportunity for international sport communities to build networks with leaders and decision-makers and to discuss various themes around sport in Africa.  The 5th edition of CISA featured how major sporting events help Africa develop and new sport development strategies for Africa, inviting influential sport leaders from all around the world.

President Casado was at a panel discussing sport development strategies in Africa, joined by Bernard Lapasset, President of the International Rugby Board, Dr. Ching- Kuo Wu, President of the International Boxing Association, Paul Kamara, Sports Minister of Sierra Leone, and Raija Mattila, Co-chair of the International Women Group.

Casado presented ITU’s latest sport development initiatives including appointment and funding of Continental Development Coordinator, scholarships and education programmes for coaches, technical officials.  She also covered the Team ITU Elite Athlete Development programme, a unique, support project that assists triathletes from developing and emerging NFs to travel and compete in ITU premiere events.

Several other IOC Members also attended the event, including Sergey Bubka, Hicham El Guerrouj, Ser Miang Ng, Nawal El Moutawakel, Sam Ramsamy, and Dae Sung Moon.  The three-day conference concluded on Saturday.
