In a continued effort to keep triathlon clean and drug-free, the International Triathlon Union (ITU) today announced it will uphold a 2-year ban imposed by the Austrian National Anti-Doping Agency on Austrian triathlete Lisa Htthaler after committing an anti-doping rule violation in an out-of-competition test in Vienna on March 22, 2008.  The ban prohibits Htthaler from entering or participating in any competition or activity authorized by ITU, its National Federations (NFs) and/or any other signatory to the World Anti-Doping Code.

Under its Anti-Doping Rules, ITU has nullified Htthalers results since the first test and will retract all prize money earned, which will be redistributed to affected athletes.

Htthalers anti-doping rule violation was a result of an adverse analytical finding of recombinant erythropoietin (EPO), a substance on the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Prohibited List.

The sterreichischer Triathlonverband (Austrian Triathlon Federation) was informed of the violation on April 28 by the Austrian Anti-Doping Committee.  A hearing was conducted two days later in Vienna that included Walter Zettinig, the federation President, Vice Presidents Helmut Kaufmann and Andreas Paschinger, Htthaler, her lawyer, and Herwig Grabner, Secretary General and Sport Director of sterreichischer Triathlonverband.  During this hearing, Htthaler was provisionally suspended.

Following the notification of the adverse analytical finding of her A sample, Htthaler exercised her right under the ITU Doping Rules to have the B sample opened.  This process began on May 21.  The B Sample was opened and was analyzed using the ISO accredited methods.  The analytical result confirmed the presence of recombinant erythropoietin (EPO) in the urine. 

A second hearing was conducted on July 28 in Vienna.  After a long legal dispute, the Austrian National Anti-Doping Agency officially banned Htthaler for two years after a third hearing on October 23.  The ban started on April 30, the date of her initial provisional suspension.

Htthalers first ITU race was the 2004 Duathlon world championships but didnt race regularly until 2006.  She made her world cup debut in 2007.

ITU is strongly committed to maintaining the integrity of the sport by ensuring athletes are competing on a level-playing field by abiding to the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Code to help keep triathlon clean.  The ITU Anti-Doping Rules are written in compliance with the WADA Code.  For a National Federation (NF) to be affiliated with ITU, it must abide by the WADA Code and ITU Rules.

En un continuo esfuerzo por mantener limpio el triatln y libre de sustancias prohibidas, la Unin Internacional de Triatln (ITU) ha anunciado hoy que la Agencia Nacional Austriaca Antidopaje impondr una sancin de dos aos a la atleta austriaca lisa Htthaler tras cometer una violacin de la regla antidopaje en una prueba realizada fuera de competicin en Viena, el 22 de Marzo de 2008.
La sancin le prohbe a Htthaler inscribirse y participar en cualquier competicin o actividad autorizada por la ITU, sus Federacin Nacionales (NFs) o cualquier otra actividad regulada por el Cdigo Mundial Antidopaje.

Siguiendo las Reglas Antidopaje, la ITU ha anulado los resultados de Htthaler desde que se le realizase el primer test y se le retirarn todos los premios econmicos ganados, los cuales sern redistribuidos entre todos los atletas afectados.

La regla antidopaje violada por Htthaler, ha sido como resultado de un anlisis positivo en el que se ha detectado eritropoyetina (EPO), una sustancia que se encuentra en la Lista Prohibida de la Agencia Mundial Antidopaje (WADA).  

La Federacin de Triatln Austriaca (sterreichischer Triathlonverband) fue informada del positivo el 28 de Abril por el Comit Antidopaje Austriaco. La vista tuvo lugar dos das ms tarde en Viena y en ella se dieron cita Walter Zettinig, el Presidente de la Federacin, los Vicepresidentes Helmut Kaufmann y Andreas Paschinger, Htthaler, su abogado y Herwig Grabner, Secretario General y el Director Deportivo de la Federacin de Triatln Austriaca. Durante la vista, Htthaler fue suspendida provisionalmente.

Siguiendo la notificacin del resultado positivo de la muestra A, Htthaler ejerci su derecho siguiendo las Reglas de Dopaje de la ITU, a que se abriese la muestra B. Este proceso comenz el 21 de Mayo. La Muestra B fue abierta y analizada siguiendo los mtodos acreditados ISO. El resultado del contraanlisis confirm la presencia de eritropoyetina (EPO) en la orina.

El 28 de Julio tuvo lugar una segunda vista en Viena. Despus de una larga disputa legal, la Agencia Nacional Antidopaje Austriaca ha impuesto oficialmente una sancin a Htthaler de dos aos, tras una tercera vista celebrada el 23 de Octubre. La sancin empez el 30 de Abril, la fecha inicial de su suspensin provisional.

La primera carrera ITU de Htthaler fue en los Campeonatos del mundo de Duatln de 2004, pero no compiti con regularidad hasta el 2006. Hizo su debut en la copa del mundo en 2007.

La ITU tiene un fuerte cometido en mantener la integridad del deporte para asegurar a los atletas que estn compitiendo en igualdad de condiciones y ayudar a la Agencia Mundial Antidopaje (WADA) a mantener limpio el triatln. Las Reglas ITU Antidopaje estn escritas siguiendo el cdigo WADA. Para que una Federacin Nacional (NF) se afilie a la ITU, debe cumplir las Reglas ITU y el Cdigo WADA.
