Asia Triathlon

A number of anti-doping activities took place surrounding the Dextro Energy Triathlon - ITU World Championship Series in London last week.

The first event was that the ITU Athlete’s Committee met to discuss issues relating to anti-doping. Among the topics discussed were increasing the number of Out of Competition tests, decreasing the size of the ITU Registered Testing Pool and Athletes for Transparency. The athletes were very enthusiastic and knowledgeable about anti-doping issues and have made this a priority for the Athlete’s Committee. Thank you to the Athlete’s Committee for taking time out of their busy schedules to meet. Richard Stannard (GBR) will be representing the Athlete’s Committee at the ITU Congress on Thursday, September 10, 2009 in Gold Coast. He will be bringing forward the items that were discussed in London.

James Sclater of the Association of Anti-doping Agencies (ANADO) gave a presentation at the Elite Athlete Briefing before the race to explain to the athletes about the importance of accurate and complete whereabouts information and the opportunity to use ADAMS, the World Anti-doping Agencies (WADA) online system.  James Sclater also gave small group sessions on ADAMS to athletes who wished it during the weekend.

Leslie Buchanan, ITU’s Anti-doping Director, took the opportunity of being in London to meet with members of UK Sport’s Anti-doping team as well as LOCOG 2012 Anti-doping team.
