ITU and ASTC host the Community Level Technical Officials seminar in Doha to boost the development of triathlon in Qatar where the federation is established and affiliated to ASTC and ITU last year.

The seminar aimed to share experience and knowledge with 32 TO candidates from Qatar to make solid foundation for our sport development. 32 participants with diverse nationalities and backgrounds took part in the one and half a day seminar to learn about ITU competition rules and Event Organizers Manual to operate community level events in Qatar from Adele Cheah, ITU facilitator from Malaysia. Throughout the seminar Adele consistently emphasized the importance of basic principles such as safety, fairness, and fun in the events.

Adele expressed deep appreciation to the Qatar Triathlon Federation for making good preparation for the seminar. “Qatar is the youngest federation in Asia. However, participants’ sincere efforts and eagerness for learning have allowed me to invite many practical questions from participants who preparing upcoming domestic event next week. I hope the participants will practice what they learnt here in their events.” Said Adele Cheah, ITU facilitator.

“We are very happy to have this seminar in Qatar and we really enjoyed seminar. We really appreciate Adele for creating good mood for us to cooperate with our team mates through group workouts and team competitions.” Said Andrej Filip, one of participant from Qatar.

Dr. Nasser Al-Mohannadi, Head of Triathlon Development of Qatar Triathlon Federation, appreciated ITU and ASTC for providing them this opportunity to enhance the development of their Technical Officials and requested continuous support from ITU and ASTC. Also he explained to us how difficult it was to start triathlon and establish federation with a small club one year ago. But his people’s passion for triathlon lead to the fastest growing sport in Qatar. At the beginning they started with one club with a few people, now they have 6 clubs with 150 triathletes and 6 events including a National Championships. Their goal is to host an international event such as World Cup and World Triathlon Series within 5 years. He is quite certain that the seminar place import foot step for their goal.

The next ITU-ASTC Sports Development projects are Nepal Level 1 Technical Officials Seminar on April 28th.
