Coaches Course in Korea

ITU Sport Development–Korean Triathlon Federation Coaches Courses
Jamsil Olympic Park, Seoul, South Korea - 8 to 13 December, 2009

The Korean Triathlon Federation (KTF) and the International Triathlon Union (ITU) hosted a competitive and beginner coaches’ course in Jamsil Olympic Park in Seoul, South Korea, 8th through 13th December 2009.

The classroom sessions were held in the Olympic Park Hotel for the 24 advanced coaches and 40 community and beginner coaches.  The swim, bike and run practical venues were located in the Seoul Olympic Park, the site of the 1988 Seoul Olympics.

Park, Chan Ho, Chair of KTF coaching committee said, “It was quite productive and fruitful to learn about triathlon techniques and skills from the world’s best coaches.”

Ki,Woo Kyong, assistant secretary general of KTF said, “The Korean Triathlon Federation used the ITU coaching course for their coaches coaching the Korean junior and U23 athletes for the future Olympics. The first course targeted Korean coaches who are involved with the education and coaching of National Federation (NF) athletes and the second course is for coaches working with beginners and youth in Korea. The first course integrated sport sciences with triathlon specific preparation, planning and evaluation of the competitive athlete (junior though U23) and second course focuses on skill, program development and communication skills.”

Ki also said, “It was a great opportunity for our domestic coaches to learn recent trends of triathlon skill and tactics.  Every participant in the course was really happy to participate in the ITU coaching course.”

Sergio Santos, Portugal’s High Performance Director along with Luc Morin, ePerformance consultant and Canadian coach along with Alan Ley, ITU Sport Development Manager were the presenters at the course.
